A Basic Guide to Home and Personal Safety
Home Security: 12 Easy Steps
1. Pin all windows = drill ahole in the window frame, insert a metal pin or wooden dowel so the window can only be opened 8". Make sure the pin can be removed easily from the inside in an emergency.
2. Make sure all chain locks, latches and hasps are mounted with 2-3" scr4ews that go into the door jam.
3. Cover or replace with shatter-proof glass any glass panes in or next to doors; where a thief can reach through to unlock the door.
4. Keep shrubs and bushes next to doors and windows cut low.
5. Install security lighting and check regularly.
6. Istall and use deadbolt locks, even when at home.
7. Hide all valuables; lock them in a secure place when away for extended periods.
8. Lock your car and house doors at all times and set the alarms.
9. When leaving on vacation, put your TV and lights on timers that match your at-home routine.
10. While you're away, have a responsible person care for your lawn. Stop the paper and mail delivery. Make your house look lived-in.
11. Anytime you are out of the house, secure all your firearms. A gun can only protect you, if it is in your hands; not a burglar's.
